Teen Producers Project Films
Since 2001, the Media Arts Center San Diego’s Teen Producers Project has been inspiring youth to be more than consumers of media as they become creators of media. Through their programs, youth throughout San Diego have learned about filmmaking and digital storytelling and have produced engaging video projects. The project’s mission is to educate youth in media arts & emerging technologies for use in self-expression, communication and social change. The beginning class focuses on documentary filmmaking and the advanced class uses a narrative framework while still focusing on social justice issues.
Dylan began attending Teen Producers in October 2011. Classes meet weekly on Saturdays year-round (except during major holidays). Projects generally take several weeks to complete and are made by the group as a whole, with everyone learning and participating in all aspects of filmmaking. Over the years, Dylan has worked on many short films in all roles, as a director, editor, cinematographer, camera assistant, sound editor, sometimes working alone in that position, other times with other students filling the same role.
